I don’t think there are “legalities” pertaining to this, but in most state they require you to carry insurance regardless on a registered vehicle. If you fail to maintain it they will suspend your registration resulting in hefty fines. You should at least keep “garage” insurance on it. Most insurance companies offer this, they’ll keep your policy active but will mark it garaged.
